How to build index

Index creation

There is no limit for number of index databases. You can build separate indexes for local folders, removable drives, network resources.

Creation of new index is quite easy. There are several ways to do it:

1. Select menu item 'File-New index' in main menu.

2. Press 'Create new index' button in cataloguer toolbar:

3. Press 'Ctrl-N' in cataloguer window.

As the result of all above action you will see the index creation wizard. You can select the appropriate scenario or set all options by yourself.

Special index types

There are 2 special indexes: 'My files' and 'My computer'. They are created automatically at first program startup. Their names must remain unchanged because other components of Integra perform opretations using these names. For example, taskbar panel always search in 'My computer' index.

'My computer' is a fulltext index for only selected types of files. The types include text files, office documents, tags in multimedia files and so on. There are a lot of files which are completely excluded from this index. All these make this index very useful for searching for local documents by keywords and phrases. On the other hand it makes impossible to use 'My computer' for filesearch, because the search results will be incomplete. Another feature of 'My computer' index is that it detects file changes and updates database automatically.

'My files' is a filesearch index. It is designed for storing limited information about files: name, size, creation and modification dates. Almost all files are stored in 'My files'. The exceptions are few, for example the temporary files and Recycler are excluded. This index does not support auto update. The reason is that auto update for whole filesystem can substantially decrease total performance.

Each of these two indexes has advantages and disadvantages, so it is very useful to build and use both of them.
